Assistance sought for Toney King Benefit

Mayor Toney King has been having severe health problems and due to these health issues he has been unable to work since January.  Unfortunately this has forced the King family to use up their savings trying to stay afloat until Toney can return to work.  The King family is now having a hard time making ends meet and they are unable to make their house payments.

The Toney King benefit starts at 10 a.m. on June 16 at Lions Park. Organized by local business owners John Kelly and Amanda Malboeuf, the event will feature a barbecue, raffles, activities for children and music. Several community businesses have committed to help with the benefit through different donations.

It was John Kelly came up with the idea to host a benefit for the King family. He asked Amanda Malboeuf to assist him with it. She gladly accepted. Unfortunately John passed away last week but Amanda will continue to host the benefit and she is asking for your help with this event.

There are several ways you can help out the King family.  A live auction will be held at the event and Amanda is looking for items to auction off. This can be anything from gift certificates to furniture and everything in between, Amanda is hoping to have something for everyone to buy. There will be a rummage sale so if you have smaller items you would like to donate those can also be put to use. Also, an aluminum can drive/metal drive any metal you have can be brought to the event where there will be a trailer to take the scrap metal to sell.

Lastly, there will be vendor booths available prices are $25 for a 10x10 or $35 for a 10x10 with electric.

In addition to the benefit, an account has been established in King’s name at Southeastern Arizona Federal Credit Union.

All proceeds are being donated to the King family.  If you have any questions or would like to donate please call 586-0180 or feel free to email Amanda at

Thank you all in advance for any help you may be able to offer the King family.  If you would like to volunteer to help out at the event Amanda is always accepting help.

Thank you,
Amanda Malboeuf
